Who are some of the greatest self made billionaires? Lets find out, starting with: 6 - Ralph Lauren Ralph Laurens name is synonymous with timeless elegance and luxury. Born on October 14, 1939, in New York City, Ralph Lauren's journey to success is as inspiring as it is fascinating. Growing up in the Bronx, even as a young boy, Lauren had an innate sense of style, often dressing differently
from his peers and showcasing his unique flair. This early passion for fashion and design would eventually become the cornerstone of his success. Polo It was in the 1960s that Ralph Lauren embarked on his entrepreneurial journey, starting with a small collection of neckties. He understood the importance of branding and created his iconic Polo emblem, symbolizing the sophistication and elegance he sought to convey. The success of his
necktie line led to the launch of Polo Ralph Lauren, a brand that would revolutionize the fashion industry. Through his creativity and meticulous attention to detail, Ralph Lauren carved a niche for himself in the world of fashion. Car Collection Aside from his fashion empire, Ralph Lauren is also known for his impressive car collection. One standout vehicle is the 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic, an incredibly rare and
valuable car known for its stunning design and limited production. Another notable addition to his collection is the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, considered one of the most sought-after cars in the world. Ralph Lauren's passion for cars is a reflection of his appreciation for craftsmanship and timeless design. Just as he carefully selects fabrics and pays attention to every stitch placement in his clothing line, he seeks out cars
that embody the same level of artistry and refinement. His car collection highlights Laurens discerning taste and his commitment to preserving the beauty of classic automobiles. 5 - Tom Ford Tom Ford is another name that resonates with elegance, creativity, and success in the world of fashion and beyond. Not many people remember that Ford's fame actually first began in acting, where he quickly found success in commercials during
the 1980s. At one point, a staggering twelve of his commercials were airing nationally, putting him right in the public eye. However, Ford's true passion lay elsewhere, and he decided to pursue architecture. Fate, however, had other plans, and he veered toward the world of fashion. Gucci Fords entry into fashion design included collaborations with Cathy Hardwick and Perry Ellis, but it was his appointment as the head of
women's fashion at Gucci in 1990 that marked a turning point in his career. At that time, Gucci was struggling, teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. Ford transformed the brand during his 15-year tenure. With his creativity and vision, he took Gucci from the brink of collapse to a staggering $10 billion market capitalization, cementing his status as a fashion icon. The end of his time at Gucci in
2004 didnt mean retirement. He embarked on a new journey in the film industry. Ford launched his film production company and showcased his writing, directing, and production talents. Directing In 2009, his debut film "A Single Man" captivated audiences, with Colin Firth and Julianne Moore bringing his vision to life. His creative journey continued with "Nocturnal Animals" in 2015, starring Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal. Despite his ventures in
filmmaking, Ford didn't stay away from the fashion world for long. In 2006, he launched his own brand, Tom Ford, which became an instant success. A-list celebrities flocked to his designs, and his creations graced red carpets and prestigious events worldwide. From Michelle Obama's Tom Ford evening gown to Daniel Craig's suits in multiple James Bond films, his influence was all over the place. The financial success of the
Tom Ford brand is undeniable. With an array of products ranging from eyewear and clothing to fragrance and accessories, the brand has grown to bring in over a billion in revenues per year. This attracted Este Lauder to buy the Tom Ford brand for $2.8 billion. Ford's business success has allowed him to live his famous lifestyle. He has a $40 million dollar Holmby Hills mansion which is located
across from the former Playboy mansion. He also has a four-story $20 million dollar Manhattan townhome, 4 - Zhang Yiming Chinese entrepreneur Zhang Yiming has amassed a mind-boggling fortune through his groundbreaking ventures in the tech realm. Hes the founder of ByteDance, the parent company behind popular apps such as TikTok and news aggregator Jinri Toutiao. Zhang has emerged as one of the wealthiest individuals in China, with an
estimated net worth of $63.2 billion as of 2023. Zhang graduated from Nankai University in China, where he majored in software engineering. His first job was at a digital travel booking startup called Kuxun, where he gained experience in sales and technology. Driven by a desire to push boundaries and explore new horizons, Zhang founded ByteDance in 2012. The company's first product was a news app called Toutiao, which
quickly gained traction in China. Zhang's vision was to create a platform infused with artificial intelligence that would deliver personalized news recommendations, setting it apart from conventional search engines and social media platforms. TikTok However, it was the launch of TikTok in 2016, initially known as 'Douyin,' that propelled Zhang into the global spotlight. TikTok's addictive short-form videos captivated users worldwide, catapulting the app to become one of the
most downloaded and influential social networking platforms. This success played a pivotal role in Zhang's accumulation of wealth, with ByteDance's valuation soaring to $250 billion, making it the world's most valuable privately held company. Zhang's leadership style and unwavering commitment to innovation have been crucial to his entrepreneurial journey. Despite being an introvert by nature, he has shown a willingness to adapt and evolve with the times. In contrast
to his personality, Zhang not only creates his own TikTok videos but he also requires his senior employees to do the same thing. The emphasis on firsthand experience and active engagement shows exactly the type of attitudes that contributed to ByteDance's success. As you probably know, TikTok has faced regulatory challenges and scrutiny during its foray into the US market regarding its security. However, Zhang is still determined to
continue ByteDance's global expansion. 3 - Jan Koum Jan Koum is the founder of Whatsapp, one of the most used apps in the world. Koum was born in 1976, in Kiev, Ukraine. When Jan was 16, his family moved from Ukraine and moved to the US where they settled in Mountain View, California, which happened to be ground zero for the tech revolution. After high school, Jan enrolled at
San Jose State University, but he didn't let academia slow him down. This guy had a knack for coding and an entrepreneurial spirit burning in his soul. Koum recalled his anger and frustration of being unable to get in touch with his dad and the rest of his family and friends that he had left behind in Ukraine, other than through the phone, which was both expensive and not
secure. At the time he wanted a much simpler way for people from across the world to keep in touch with each other. But it was his fateful encounter with Brian Acton that changed everything for him. They crossed paths while working at Yahoo and hit it off like two peas in a pod. They shared a vision of creating a messaging platform that would be free from ads
and focused on user privacy. And thats how WhatsApp was born! WhatsApp Jan and Brian went all-in, pouring in all their time into WhatsApp. When Whatsapp first released in May of 2009, the app didnt get any traction. But a month later, Apple introduced push notifications. That changed the game for Whatsapp, where people were downloading the free version of the app to message their international friends. By 2014,
Mark Zuckerberg saw the magic in WhatsApp and decided to acquire it for $19 billion. Jan Koum's journey from almost broke to billionaire is still one of the fastest ascensions ever. 2 - Diane Hendricks Billionaire Diane Hendricks is arguably the most successful female entrepreneur ever. She was born and raised in a small town in Wisconsin, where Diane grew up in a family of dairy farmers. Despite the
traditional gender roles assigned to her, she still had a strong desire to work outdoors alongside her father. However, societal expectations pushed her toward more conventional tasks, such as housework. Diane's father was known for always being concerned about the welfare of the town and its schools. At the age of 17, Diane found herself pregnant and married to her high school sweetheart. They settled in Janesville, Wisconsin, where
she took a job on the assembly line of Parker Pen. It became clear to her that factory work wasn't her calling. Motivated by the need to support herself and her son, she pursued her real estate license, displaying her determination to create a better future for herself and her family. Diane's marriage came to an end, and at the age of 21, she filed for divorce, embracing the
challenges of single motherhood. ABC Supply As fate would have it, a man named Ken Hendricks entered her life. Ken, a roofing contractor, soon became her business partner. Together, they ventured into real estate, buying and renovating properties in the Beloit area. Their success led them to the roofing distribution business, and in 1982, they founded ABC Supply Inc. Despite the challenging economic climate at the time, Diane and
Ken took a leap of faith, using their homes and investments to finance the purchase of several roofing stores. Tragedy struck in 2007 when Ken passed away from injuries sustained in a construction site accident. Diane stepped up to lead their life's work. She guided ABC Supply Inc. which had grown to over 350 locations and employs thousands of people across the country. Beyond ABC Supply, Diane expanded her
business ventures through the Hendricks Holding Company, which has interests in a diverse range of industries, including manufacturing, transportation and logistics, and insurance. Through philanthropy and initiatives such as the Beloit International Film Festival, Diane has also reached back and invested in the growth and development of her hometown. 30 million dollars in just 6 months! 1 - Jeff Bezos Jeff Bezos really needs no introduction. His journey to becoming one of the wealthiest individuals all started with his brainchild, Amazon. The e-commerce giant, founded by Bezos in 1994, revolutionized the way people shop and transformed into a global powerhouse. With a relentless focus on customer satisfaction, Amazon quickly expanded its offerings beyond books and became the go-to
destination for virtually anything one could desire. But Bezos's ascent to the pinnacle of wealth wasn't without its personal trials. His highly publicized divorce from his wife of 25 years, MacKenzie Scott, captured headlines and shed light on the absence of a prenuptial agreement. The lack of a prenup became a subject of fascination, as it was revealed that Scott had played an integral role in Amazon's early days,
providing critical support and understanding during the challenging startup years. As a result, she received a significant settlement, making her one of the richest women in the world. Starting Over Following his divorce, Bezos embarked on a new chapter in his personal life, finding love and companionship with Lauren Snchez, a prominent broadcast journalist. Their relationship became the subject of intense media scrutiny, also capturing the public's fascination. Together,
Bezos and Snchez embarked on vacations and were often seen attending high-profile events and parties. The couple's opulent lifestyle was on full display, particularly during their escapades aboard Bezos's lavish $500 million yacht that came with a sculpture that kinda looks like Snchez. Bezos's relationship with Snchez of course meant a new beginning in his personal life. He resonated with the symbolism of the Koru, which is the name
of his yacht and a Mori symbol of new life, growth, and strength. The wooden sculpture on his yacht represents the couple's commitment to embracing positive change and hope for the future. Despite the attention on his personal life, Bezos continues to steer Amazon's ship, albeit in a different capacity. He took on the role of executive chairman after stepping down as CEO. This transition allowed him to focus
on new ventures and initiatives, such as his space exploration company, Blue Origin, which aims to make space travel accessible to all. Scott Storch Scott Storch was a music producer who worked with icons like Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, and Christina Aguilera. Scott Storch also blew, or rather inhaled, over $30 million in 6 months. Storch was the producer behind some of musics biggest hits between 1999 and
2006, and in the process developed a costly addiction that would suck up all his earnings. Storch made $100 million over his career, but that money went fast. The hit producer filed for bankruptcy several times, having spent most of his money pretending his nose was a vacuum cleaner. He also got in trouble with Suge Knight. Long Island Scott Storch grew up in Long Island, New York. His
father was a court reporter, and his mother a singer. Storch came from a musical family. His Uncle Jerry founded soul-rock band The Vagrants. When his parents divorced, a ten-year-old Storch moved to Florida with his mother. High school was tough, and in the middle of his first year, Storch moved with his father to Cherry Hill, New Jersey. They had family nearby, including Storchs cousin, who introduced him
to the world of music. Skyrocket Storch was soon producing his beats and breaking into the music scene. By 1991 he was the keyboard player for the well-known hip-hop group, The Roots and rose to stardom. He contributed to several Roots albums, like Organix and Do You Want More?!!!?!. Despite his success with the band, Storch was sick of the bands packed tour schedule. He preferred being in the
studio instead and decided to build a career in music production. As a producer, Storch worked with the top names in the industry. Hed already produced hits by the Roots before he worked with Dr. Dre on his hit Still D.R.E. where Storch played the piano that provided the catchy soul of the single. The hit skyrocketed Storchs career, which led to collaborations with 50 Cent, Chris Brown, Snoop
Dogg. He saw himself as a chameleon and cared more about good music than the genre. Storch admitted he enjoyed the challenge of being pushed to work on styles that he hadnt done before. Storch produced hundreds of hit songs like Candy Shop by 50 Cent, Justin Timberlakes hit Cry Me a River, and Me, Myself, and I by Queen Beyonce. In 2005 Storch had produced over 80 tracks
and was at the top of his game. He would sell each track for $100,000. Storch's biggest hit financially was the song Lean Back that he recorded with Fat Joes Terror Squad. The song didnt just make him a massive amount of cash but also proved his talent as a songwriter. In 2006 he won the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year Award. With all of his success, it was
time for Storch to create his record label, which he named Storch Music Company, and opened a music production company called Tuff Jew Productions LLC. He was a top, award-winning music producer, but his issue with nose beers was growing out of control, and soon, his career, much like his septum, would begin to crumble. 6 Months Storchs lifestyle completely changed when he became rich and famous. He amassed
an elaborate car collection, with 20 high-end luxury cars costing between $250,000 and $700,000 each. He would wake up, indulge in his powdery habit, and go to the car dealership. Storch had a Bentley, Ferrari, Maybach, Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini, and a limited edition McLaren SLR. He bought at least ten of his vehicles while under the influence. In 2005 he dated heiress and socialite Paris Hilton. Storch blamed her
for introducing him to the party scene, which later absorbed his life. We know: you're like 'Paris Hilton? The socialite!? There's NO WAY someone of her solid moral character would ever introduce a susceptible young man into that kind of party scene!' We were just as shocked to hear it, but this is straight from the man himself! The couple worked on Hiltons debut album, Paris, together. They met
in Miami and spent most of their time together in the studio, where they became very close. Life with Hilton was unlike anything Storch had experienced before. They were hounded by paparazzi, would take trips to exotic places, and partied hard. The pressure of working with such a high-profile celebrity backfired on the producer, and the pair broke up. Storch took a break from music, and his newly elevated
social status meant everyone knew who he was. After his split with Hilton, he was linked to her assistant at the time, Kim Kardashian, someone who was WAY less game hungry. Party Life In 2006 Storch bought his $10.5 million mansion on Miamis exclusive Palm Island. It was a waterfront mansion with nine bedrooms, an indoor pool, a movie theater, a fitness center, a spa, and a game room.
In total, the property was a whopping 30,000 square feet. He parked his $20 million yacht, which had four bedrooms, in front of his extravagant house. Storch also loved expensive jewelry and owned watches costing $100,000, necklaces, and many more shiny displays of excessive wealth. He treated his girlfriends to millions of dollars of diamonds and wore a $7 million 32-carat canary yellow diamond ring on his left index
finger. When he traveled, he preferred to take his private jet and would drop $250,000 each way to bring his entire entourage on vacation to the French Riviera. Storch dropped over $250,000 a month on partying alone. Well, not alone like he was alone because that would be weird, but alone as in just on partying. For Scott Storch, party rock was in the house every night and it
cost 8 grand. Falling Apart By 2006 Storchs net worth hit $70 million. He should have been financially set for life, but the allure of the party scene and his love for luxury goods would be his downfall. He completely stopped working and partying turned into his full-time job. Storchs Miami mansion was the perfect place to enjoy the lavish side of life, and while he spent huge amounts
of money on extravagant things, nothing compared to what he put towards his nose candy. Storchs reputation was crumbling. He became unreliable and, in 2007, actually made Janet Jackson wait 10 hours at the studio so that he could finish partying. The party stops for no one, not even the least creepy Jackson. Artists were no longer interested in working with a music producer who had stopped prioritizing his
work. Word got around and Storch found himself with more party time than he expected. By June 2008, Storch was behind on his child-support payments and failed to attend the hearing. At the time, he also owed the government $500,000 in property taxes on his lavish home. With his legal troubles mounting, Storch checked himself into a rehab center. While he was trying to get his life back on
track, the bank repossessed his Palm Island home and sold it to Rockstar energy drink founder Russell Weiner for $6.75 million, much less than Storch paid. While Storchs income might have slowed down, his spending didnt. In 2009 he had blown through his $100 million fortune and had to declare bankruptcy. But the legal problems didnt stop. He leased a 2004 Bentley GT in February 2006, and the terms
of the agreement stated he would return it in March 2008. Storch broke the lease terms, and the Bentleys owners, the Atlas Leasing Company, claimed his actions cost them $65,000 in revenue. Police arrested Storch in Miami and charged him with grand theft auto, although they later dropped the charges. Spiraling Aspiring singer Treena Ruberg paid Storch to produce her album. When the time came to start recording, Storch
wasn't, let's just call it, awake enough to get the job done. Ruberg had agreed to pay Storch $45,000 to produce six songs for her and paid $30,000 of that money upfront. She sued him when he wasnt able to deliver. Storch accused former Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight of bullying him into handing over songwriter royalties for a portion of their worth. Knight, currently serving his 28
year prison sentence, had collaborated with Music Royalty Consulting Inc. for the deal. Knight allegedly coerced Storch into signing over the royalties while under the influence of his favorite powdery substance and made Storch fear for his safety due to Knights intimidation and threats. According to legal papers, Knight forced Storch to participate in the transaction where Storch received a fraction of his musics worth. Knight dragged Storch to
his office to sign the contract despite Storch being unrepresented and under the influence. Additionally, Knight took the majority of the nominal payments Storch received. Knight most likely knew that the hit producer was down on his luck, battling his nose beer problems and financial hardships. At the time, Storchs most valuable assets were the rights to future royalty payments for songs he had previously produced. Storch sold the
publishers share of his royalty rights for $2.3 million to Reservoir Media Management. He wasnt ripped off in the original agreement, as the royalties were worth the same amount. Instead of receiving $2.3 million for his separate songwriters royalties, he was screwed over. Storch and Knight lived in the same gated community, giving Knight a front-row seat to Storchs struggles. He took the producer from his home to the
officers of MRCI for a meeting. After Storch signed over his writers royalties, they gave him a $5,000 check which Knight claimed more than half of. Storch received another check for $58,000, but Knight threatened and intimidated him into surrendering over half of it to Knight again. In total, MRCI paid Storch $429,306.20, but Knight allegedly bullied him out of over half of his earnings. Storch filed a lawsuit
against MRCI, asking they return the writers share of his royalties. Sounds like he got off easier than Vanilla Ice, who Knight allegedly dangled over a balcony for similar reasons. Bankrupt Again Real estate moguls Brad and Seth Cohen learned of Storch's downfall and wanted to help get him back on his feet. The businessmen earned their money through real estate and insurance holdings and signed a million-dollar deal
with Storch, using their own money to fund Storch's comeback. Brad and Seth hoped he would use his connections in the industry and prove himself once again as a hit music producer. As part of the deal, the brothers paid him a weekly salary, provided him with a rental house in Parkland, Florida, and gave him a Rolls Royce Ghost. The terms of their agreement stated that if Storch
failed a drug test or showed signs of falling back into his old party habits, they would take away the Rolls Royce. The vehicle was under Scott Cohen's name, and when the Cohens discovered Storch was back to baking but only using flour, they wanted the car back. Scott feared it would be an insurance liability if Storch continued to drive it. The disagreement over the Rolls-Royce would lead
the Cohens' relationship with Storch to dissolve. By June 2015, Storch filed for bankruptcy again, valuing his music company at $0 and in the filing stating he only earned $10,000 in 2014. The legal papers said he only had $3,600. Storch had $500 worth of clothing and a $3000 watch. By that point, he only had $100 in cash. Today Storch worked on rebuilding his life and revamped his
public image when he started Storch Labs, joining the Green Rush by entering the marijuana industry. He also started working in music again and was a part of hits by DJ Khaled, Rick Ross, Snoop Dog, The Game, Chris Brown, French Montana, among others. The scene had changed dramatically since the height of his career. People stopped buying albums in the record store, with few owning physical CDs. Storch
was contending with a much more saturated industry, where music was much more accessible but not always good quality. However, Storch knew he could still be a pioneer in creating hit-making material. Some of his best-known recent projects are DJ Khaleds Everytime We Come Around, Snoop Doggs Happy Birthday Pt. 2, Rick Ross Supreme and Sorry, and The Games All Eyez. Storch has admitted to his struggles, particularly in
2014 and 2015 when he was in a different headspace. Storch claimed he was on solid ground after no longer flying the powder plane and was taking his music far more seriously now that he had a clear head. Celebrating his sobriety, Storch has worked on new projects with musics top artists and returned to doing what he loves, being in the studio and making music. Today his net
worth is $250,000, a fraction of his fortune during the early 2000s but far more than it was at the time of his 2015 bankruptcy. We hope he lays off the nose jobs.
