The family of actor Bruce Willis says the beloved film star has dementia. Saying in a statement, Bruce's condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis. affecting their personality. So it could be a little bit hard to diagnose that first. FTD has no dedicated treatment. According to the Mayo Clinic, some drugs used to treat or slow Alzheimer's disease can make symptoms worse for people with FTD. Managing symptoms is about all doctors can do. Speech therapy or cognitive therapy is often helpful if there have been problems functioning. And engaging in their activities
of daily living, the things that they do every day, oftentimes occupational or physical therapy is helpful. The family saying of Willis, we know in our hearts that if he could today, he would want to respond by bringing global attention and a connectedness with those who are also dealing with this debilitating disease and how it impacts so many individuals and their families. A hopeful sign for people
like Gina Motha. I think bringing visit to the ability to something that not many people understand or wanted to understand gives us all the opportunity to learn. And actually break the misleading information out there and harmful assumptions about dementia in general. I think people look at it and they're terrified. And so I think being on the journey and as much as Bruce Willis as family is
willing to share would be amazing because this would bring to light. You know, a lot of the information that's going to be feels like so many of us are in the dark about and make it less scary. Motha points out that this is not an immediate death sentence. The people with dementia and this particular type of it can still live long lives and have better days
