Biden visits Ukraine ahead of war anniversary: 'Kyiv stands'

President Biden leaving Kiev a short time ago after holding a surprise meeting with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. Details of the president's visit were kept under wraps until early this morning. He's now on his way to Poland. And we have team coverage live from Europe this morning. Correspondent Haley Bull is live in Warsaw with the details of the trip that we knew about. But first let's get

to correspondent Jason Bellini live in Kiev with what we know so far about the president's secret stop of his trip. Good morning, Jason. Hey guys, well, the president's he came and left just a little context here in the weeks leading up to this surprise visit. Advisors to president Zelensky had been mourning that this would be the week when Russia would launch a massive missile attack. So

imagine what the secret service was dealing with in planning this and it certainly explains why things were kept so secret. Now this church behind me, this is Saint Christopher's Cathedral. That's where Biden came among amongst one of his first outdoor visits with president Zelensky. And while he was there and he was laying a wreath at a memorial, the air raid sirens started going off. We found

out later that the cause of that was a big Russian make jet taking off in Belarus. If they were to fire a missile from that jet, we would only take 20 minutes to get here. And that's the type they have the type of missile on those jets that. The Ukrainians don't have the ability to shoot down. Fortunately, there was nothing, nothing eventful happened when it came

to that, but it certainly underscores why there was so much concern here about security and that they couldn't protect the president from everything. Now the president's Biden, while he was here in remarks, he made with president Zelensky, explained why the U.S. is so committed to Ukraine's cause. And that's how long we're going to be with you, Mr. President, for as long as it takes. And President

Zelensky expressed his enormous gratitude to the president for coming here and for all the United States has done. Take a listen.
