Labour's mission to make Britain's streets safe

I think as a police and crime commissioner you know when I'll go and listen to the residents that live in my areas these four priorities in in keeping our streets safe are pretty much an echo of what we hear from communities which is really really good for me you can't rest your way out of crime and I'd be surprised if any of the cops at the

table today will tell us that you can we need to be looking at the preventative stuff I want to be putting in interventions about knife crime but actually I want us to be doing the education work and the stuff with young people right from the beginning to stop them ever thinking about picking up a knife in the first place I feel quite confident that introducing neighborhood

a par with other National threats is really important as part of of that culture change for that culture shift to dealing with that then requires a skilled understanding Workforce that has had training and opportunities through the risk and lens of what we call public protection is really important I'm really struck by and I think all the points everybody is talking about it feels to me very

strongly into all the things that kiers said that rebuilding that neighborhood policing is also how you reconnect the police with local communities both in terms of the prevention in terms of the or the fairness issues in terms of tackling the Discrimination Injustice issues that we've faced and also preventing crime and catching criminals it will only happen if there's a partnership where everybody understands what the mission

is everybody knows and is committed to it and it knows what part they can play in dealing with it
