on behalf of everyone at the labor party I'd like to wish you all a very happy coronation day and to welcome our new King Charles III to the throne like most of us this is the first coronation to happen in my lifetime and because of that it's hard not to reflect on the past the great Elizabethan era now part of our national history at the late
Queen herself our Still Point in a turning world we remember her again today but coronations are of course about the future the renewal of a bond of service that could unite the country Sovereign and subject past and present like his mother before him in 1953 Charles III ascends to the throne at a time when our country feels in need of stability and change now as then
the British people deserve some good news after a prolonged spell of hardship and suffering now as then the tough times we've lived through show us a glimpse of something new and better because when we were tested most during the pandemic we saw the best of the British people checking on neighbors volunteering putting the welfare of people would probably never meet above ourselves since that dark night
passed we are more grateful than ever for all the things that make life worth living the time with loved ones the shared experiences the freedom and the fun and across our country I've been struck by the renewed sense of purpose and pride people have to restore their neighborhood their Town their community to get through the challenges we face and build something new Charles III is a
king for precisely such a Time throughout his life he's used his position to drive forward progress I've seen firsthand how his Charities lift up disadvantaged young people his passionate advocacy for the environment has helped Drive change that will last beyond any of our lifetimes and it's long been a voice for a fairer Society one that celebrates our Traditions whilst also embracing the country we've become so
this weekend let's break out the bunting enjoy the street party and the extra day off work and raise a glass to the promise of a new beginning and a new king God Save the King
