Jordan how disappointed are you with the speak what happened here and speaker M I thought it was I thought it was unfair to unfair to Kevin Kevin I think's done a fine job and he and I came in together he's a good man um and he didn't deserve this in my judgment you will you run for speaker that's a decision for the conference are you open
to it will you will you change I change the motion de Kate is all that's up to the conference that's not my fa what what promises are you making are what what promises are you making to the conference policy-wise agenda wise the agenda is what I spoke about on the floor mon the we need to pass the bills that need to be passed we've done a
lot of that biggest one of course is hr2 the immigration border security uh legislation frankly I wish tuck shim would bring it up he can amend it he can change it but take it up it's the biggest I think mayor Adams is in somewhere in Central America as we speak this is how bad this problem is Democrats get it Republicans get it independent Americans get it
so bring it up make changes to it then let's go to a conference committee hash it out we'll have Republicans Democrats hash it out they'll get a majority of Democrats from the Senate we'll have a majority Republicans but we'll sit down hash it out put that bill up for a vote that's how the system works but they won't even take it up they won't take it
up they just they just keep talking meanwhile Eric Adams says it's it's it's he talks about how it's hurting his City our one of our great cities so I do not understand that just take that take our bill up what about Ukraine are you are you willing to move forward with Aid package for Ukraine if you're a speaker I'm I'm against that uh what I understand
is at some point we're going to have to deal with this appropriation process in the right way we're going to try to do that in the next what it we down to 41 days um the most pressing issue on Americans mind is not Ukraine it is the Border situation and it is crime on the streets and everybody knows that so let's address those if the Senate
wants to send us something on other issues that's that's their prerogative but that's what we got I think we're a conservative cerri party I think the guy who can help unite that I think my politics are entirely consistent with where conservatives and Republicans are across the country to some of those eights how are you going to get them in line if you were I mean those
those I disagree with you know what what took place but those guys are friends of mine and and uh you know I think that's that's the message I've been talking to my colleagues about is who can who can bring the eight in in into the on you know part of the team who can unite our team I think I can do that if I didn't think
I could do that I wouldn't run uh and I also think I can I can take our message to the American people so the so the country knows what we're trying to do and what we're and how we're working for them and that's those are the two fundamental questions who's better equipped to do that bring the team together and take the message to the country on
Ukraine you've made clear you're against additional funding for Ukraine but a lot of your Republican colleagues disagree can you really unite Republicans if you're not open to additional funding for Ukraine I've been clear that there are two fundamental questions that need to be answered uh what's the goal is the goal some negotiate a peace is the goal some get them out of eastern Ukraine is the
goal to getting the Russians out of Crimea which they've had except during the Obama Administration they've had for now nine years what is the goal what is the objective second question if you can tell us what the goal is how's the money being spent how how can we account for that I think the American people are entitled to know the answer to those two questions before
we continue to send their hard-earned money to uh protect Ukraine's border when we have what's happening on our border I got would you are you opposed to changing the motion some of your colleagues are calling for revenge against the a what do you think of that Mr Jordan how quickly would you be prepared to go to the floor today if you get soon as possible uh
I don't know if it's today but that we'll see how the candidate Forum goes uh but we feel good but we do have members who I think both Republican Democrat members who aren't in town my understanding so you got to allow sometime for them to get back but if you've been saying all along so you need to have 217 votes if you do not get 2117
votes fall short of it is it time for you to step aside and let someone else step up we'll see but we think we will and the vot's not till sometime later we got the candidate for now which I got I got get how many votes are you willing to go through tomorrow are you going to just keep going we need to get a speaker tomorrow
um the American people deserve to have their Congress their House of Representatives working um and we can't have that happen till get a speaker so we need to do that plus we need to be helping our our dearest friend and colleague uh our dearest friend and and closest Ally Israel we need to help them as well keep going over and over again tomorrow you expect multiple
roll call well look I feel good walking into the conference I feel even better now we got a few more people we want to talk to listen to uh and then we'll have a vote tomorrow would you be opposed to put ukra Israel how many rounds do you think this speaker vote's going to take need to get watch yourself watch yourself we need to get a
speaker as soon as possible get to work any concerns you've heard from Members about tactics used to win your vote no are you going back to the floor today but that's the plan when do you think the next V will be said are you threatening m we're going to keep going i' had great conversations great discussions with our colleagues and frankly no one no one in
our conference wants to see any type of coalition government with Democrats so we're going to keep working and we're going to get to the votes how many balance are you willing to go through until we get a speaker we got to we got to have a speaker and it can't be some deal with the Democrats I mean American people don't want that they elect Republicans in
a majority small majority I get it but we got 200 votes in the first ballot I think that maybe even is more than what Kevin got J right about where Kevin was Gus B Rockets is a vote for us that's 2011 we've had good conversations we're going to keep working but Mr Speaker protemp Madame clerk colleagues on behalf of the house Republican conference I rise today
to nominate the gentleman from Ohio Jim Jordan as Speaker of the people's house we are at a time time of great crisis Across America a time of historic challenges in this very chamber and a time when heinous acts of Terror and evil have been committed against our great Ally Israel as this body convenes for the sacred responsibility to elect the next speaker of the people's house
I am reminded of the Book of Esther for such a time is this Jim George will be America's speaker for such a time as this a time when hardworking American families are struggling under the vice of inflation not able to afford groceries heat or gas because of the trillions and trillions of dollars of Reckless spending by failed far-left government a time when millions are being illegally
trafficked and smuggled across our Southern and Northern borders due to the catastrophic and inhumane wide openen borders of Joe Biden a time when violent crime is skyrocketing Across America destroying our great cities suburbs and small towns where people no longer feel safe in their homes or in their communities a time when American energy production has been crushed by Joe Biden's radical failed far-left policies causing Seniors
Farmers and families to pay more at the pump and struggle with skyrocketing utility bills a time when the the federal government is weaponized against we the people who they are supposed to serve stripping us of our god-given constitutional rights and wrongfully targeting conservatives Catholics and even parents at Schoolboard meetings and a time when the people of our closest and most precious Ally Israel suffered the bloodiest
day since the Holocaust with acts of inhumane evil committed by Hamas terrorist backed by Iran grotesque atrocities the beheadings of babies rapes kidnappings and Slaughter of women children and the elderly and Israelis and Americans taken hostage we are here in this very chamber for such a time as this Jim Jordan will be We the People speaker for such a time as this our friend and colleague
Jim Jordan is a patriot he is an America First Warrior who wins the toughest of fights going after corruption and delivering accountability at the highest levels of government on behalf of We the People Jim is the voice of the American people who have felt voiceless for far too long whether as Judiciary chair conservative leader or representative for his constituents in West Central Ohio whether on the
wrestling mat or in the committee room Jim Jordan is strategic Scrappy tough and principled he is a mentor a worker and above all he is a fighter and the American people know we know that Jim Jordan is a winner on behalf of the American people almost 10 years ago many of us sat with our colleague Jim Jordan In This Very chamber when prime minister Netanyahu delivered
his historic joint address which some of our colleagues across the aisle sh shamefully boycotted BB pointed out that in this very chamber we serve under the watchful gaze of Moses he said quote overlooking all of us in this chamber is the image of Moses and before the people of Israel entered the land of Israel Moses gave us a message that has stealed our resolve for thousands
of years be strong and Resolute neither fear nor dread them he went on to say my friends May Israel and America always stand together strong and Resolute may we neither fear nor dread the challenges ahead may we Face the future with confidence strength and hope end quote on behalf of the American people let's face the future with confidence strength and hope let's elect Jim Jordan our
speaker of the people's house for such a time as this and I yield back are you planning to stay in the race today and how many voted 11 do you have more support are you expecting more opposition I I I know we picked up a couple we'll see uh but I I feel good about it would you go a third round we got to get a
speaker so we can open the house so I'm going to get there look I already proven I can get from the most conservative members of the conference to the more moderate members of the conference so whole cross-section of the conference it's important that we get the last uh last few we got we got 90% of the conference to introduce a resolution to empower mck Henry to
be the speaker protm on a permanent basis would you support that I don't think that's the right way to go I think we should get a republican speaker uh I got 90% of the Republicans in the con according to me would that help buy you more time no I I I mean I think we should get a republican speaker I've been very clear about that I
think that's where the conference is that's what our rulle suggests so let's get a republican speaker and get about the people's business I got what if it was on a temporary basis what if it was on a temp we're not focused on that I'm sorry but I gotta I got to go meet a colleague sorry what is your plan this morning what is your plan this
morning to try to get more support we just keep talking I'm meeting with some members uh one member now and a few members later do you think that you're going to pick up support on the second ballot this morning I hope so I think so we've already had a uh Mr Bill rock is coming back we've already had one member who told us that he is
uh going from I forget who we voted for the first round is going to vote for us on second round to be clear you're not dropping out you're willing to have this go on for as long as it takes we're voting on date 11 do you think that you would have a third ballot even if you start to siphon away votes on the second oh which
one is it oh down here I'm sorry if you start to lose votes are you going to go to a third ballot how do thanks for stopping thank you Mr Speaker Mr Speaker I Rise for the purpose uh of placing a nomination the name of the honorable Jim Jordan for the position of uh speaker of the house at the direction of the Republican [Applause] con gentlem
re thank you very much Mr Speaker Mr Speaker two weeks and one day ago I was was on this uh house floor and in this chamber defending uh my very good friend and our former speaker Mr McCarthy uh from an effort to vacate the chair and in the course of that speech I made a remark that uh uh those who did this uh whether intentionally or
unintentionally were going to put the Congress in a state of chaos and the country into a state of uncertainty I think the last two weeks have Vindicated that observation but we have a chance today to end that chaos and to end that uncertainty now when these races happen there's always a lot of hard things said on both sides of the aisle uh there's a lot of
finger pointing that goes on I don't intend to be involved in any of that today I think the decision in front of us is far far too important important for that but I am very proud very proud to place in nomination the name of our good friend my good friend our Republican candidate for speaker The Honorable Jim Jordan of [Applause] Ohio of knowing Jim Jordan for
a long time I've been in Congress for a long time so in for his entire period in the house I've had the honor of serving with my friend now my friend is not exactly a shrinking violent you don't win a National Championships in college you don't come to this floor with a sincere set of beliefs and desire to make a change uh and be shy about
it and my friend is not a shy person but I've learned some things about him over the years uh he is a person of absolute personal Integrity I've never once had to question something that he told me he's an honorable man also I think we all know he's a pretty direct man too I don't think anybody in here on any issue of any substance would have
to guess where Jim Jordan is going to stand he doesn't deceive he doesn't Assemble he simply tells you straight up this is what I believe this is why I think it's the right thing to do for the country and that's what I'm going to try and accomplish and I'm going to work with you in any way that I can to do it now the other thing
I think we've found in the last couple of weeks is what it takes to be a speaker and the one thing I know never having been one and never having aspired to be one uh that uh it takes a spine of Steel to do this job my friend has that kind of determination has that kind of character has that kind of spine and I think uh
the next speaker is going to need that quality and I know my friend has it in Great abundance now if you're a republican it ought to be a pretty easy decision my friends you know this is a somebody who believes what we believe and has fought for and shown that over and over again you know I first got to know him a lot of his Focus
was on spending that's exactly where the focus of this house ought to be now he's laid out a plan not just a short-term plan as to how we deal with the Appropriations process I'm an appropriator I think I know that uh that's not the root of the problem but unlike any other speaker we've had he's had the courage to talk about a long-term plan and to
get at the real drivers of debt and we all know what they are we all know it's Social Security we all know it's Medicare we all know it's Medicaid no president of either side has been willing to deal with this no speaker of either side has been willing to deal with this my friend our former colleague John Delaney and I offered a plan I still file
it every year John's not here anymore to go back and do in 1983 what we did then and address social security we never can get any help this is a guy that wants to create a debt commission a bipartisan debt commission and get at the roots of our spending problem that takes courage and Republicans ought to support somebody with that kind of courage now he's not
only focused on one thing I don't know anybody that's done more to highlight and talk about the Border disaster that is underway right now as we speak you know I had the privilege of serving here when uh uh Jay Johnson was Secretary of Homeland Security I have a very high opinion from Jay Johnson I think he's one of the finest public servants I ever met and
he was asked on one occasion to Define what was a crisis on the southern border and he said any time you have more than a thousand illegal entries a day you have a crisis we have 10 or 11 times that every single day and in that tide of humanity that's coming across there is a boatload of fentanyl coming to kill tens of thousands of all of
our constituents there are human traffickers who are taking advantage of young men and young women and frankly predators in our own country and they're bringing them across not by the tens or the 20s or the dozens but by the hundreds and the thousands you know there are amongst that flow of people people that wish us ill people who are not fleeing from oppression people who are
terrorists or criminals that are coming into our country for no good reason now that is not an immigration problem that's a border security problem they are not the same thing we can we can debate immigration that's a worthy debate we should never have to debate Bo security nobody's highlighted that issue like my friend Jim Jordan nobody's done more as a committee chairman to move legislation that
would meaningfully deal with this problem and this my friends on both sides of the aisle but with all due respect particularly this Administration and my friends on the other side you need to look at this you need to look at this seriously don't confuse it with immigration the you ain't going to have immigration reform until we have border security canot be done this has been the
number one champion of that it's one of the number one issues that we have finally I want to talk about something that can bring us together there are a lot of things we disagree on legitimately so most of us do not disagree about the security of the state of Israel all of us all of us on both sides of the aisle reacted with horror and with
deep sympathy and with legitimate outrage at the crime that was perpetrated against the people of Israel in the last week all of us and all of us know that they are within their rights to respond forcefully and swiftly to defend their people and punish those who brought that upon them so at a moment of Crisis and we are in a moment of Crisis we should come
together and act and we know we can't do that without a speaker of the house now it's a narrow majority but my friends and I are in the majority uh and we need to produce a speaker we have a candidate who we know where he will stand on issues are important we know where he's going to stand on spending because it's where he's always stood not
like he's changed over the course of his career I know what he's going to do on the border I've read hr2 I've seen what his committee produced and it's not just money it's policy and change that will provide security for the American people and finally and I say this on a bipartisan basis I know he will stand up for Israel and I know in that area
we can come together that crisis is on us now we may get a request almost any time to act we need to be able to act my friend will act on that crisis he's shown his whole career so it's with a great deal of Pride that I have the privilege of nominating my friend our chair chairman of the Judiciary Committee but a person whose principles you
know whose actions you can trust and who in a time of Crisis will respond with the leadership we need Jim Jordan morning are are you at this point to try and get support we got a conference at 11: we're going to talk with our visit with our colleagues there at 11: are and then we'll then there'll be there'll be a vote uh uh later after conf
can I just ask at this point do you think that empowering McKenry for a short period of time might give you more chance to win over some of those skeptical Republicans we're looking to bring the conference together we're going to talk about all kinds of options I think at the uh at the conf would you like to vote to go for whether you have the votes
or not or is it time to change course uh there's going to uh like I said there's going to be a conference and we we'll talk about uh what what happens next conf are you going to go to a third round yes or no we're we're we're still in this race for sure did you just vote did you just talk to McKenry did you just talk
to [Music] McKenry so I I'll just say this we made the we made the pitch to um members on the resolution as a way to lower the temperature and get back to work uh we decided that wasn't where we're going to go I'm still running for speaker and I plan to go to the floor uh and get the votes and win this race but I want
to go talk with a few of my colleagues particular I want to talk with the 20 individuals who voted against me um so that we can move forward and begin to work for the American people are you going to the floor today sir are you going to the floor today no no well it was uh I told the conference it was an honor to be there
U speaker design but I felt it was important that we all we all know answer to the question if they wanted me to continue in that um in that role and so we put the question to them they made a different decision um I told the conference that I appreciate getting to work with everyone talk with everyone I got to know members in our conference that
I didn't really know that well over the last 3 weeks and that U we uh we need to come together and figure out who our speaker is going to be I'm going to work as hard as I can to help that individual so that we can go help the American people and I'm also going to go back to work we got we got several depositions lined
up next week in theary committee work that we need to do uh for the American people and our investigative work so we'll go back to work there but it's important we do unite let's uh let's figure out who that individual is get behind Mr Jordan you lost more votes on this round how much longer do you think you can keep this up you guys said we
were going to lose 15 to 30 still 25 is not a low number do you think you can keep this we only lost a couple we had a couple absents who would have been for us do you think you'll make up for this in conference we're going to try I I think so um and you know we got in like an hour gotcha thank you thank
you thank you all for coming you know a few years ago um Paulie and I got a call from some friends living the Dayton no dayon Ohio area we live about 40 mil north of there and they they asked if we were free free to go to dinner with them on a few nights later and we said sure and they said before we go to dinner
we're going to tour the um right Brothers Homes and we said we said great we we enjoy history let's let's learn about these amazing two Americans and so we go there and uh he paid the lady at the door $5 from the historical society and you go in this tour and you learn all these amazing things about the right Brothers you learn about the bicycle shop
and the other things the the gadgets and gizmos they tinkered with and built fascinating tour Last Stop on the tour is Orval wri's uh bedroom and they tell you a few more things about this particular wri brother and then they close the tour out by showing you two pictures first picture they hold up that very first flight 1903 in Kittyhawk North Carolina in this thing they
called a plane and you first first first thought you'd see that and you how did that thing get off the ground and the truth is it barely did flew like 100 feet got a few feet off the ground and you're thinking about that you sort of remember that picture from 8th grade 9th grade whenever they teach you that in scho school and I thought well that
that's amazing they put that picture down and then they hold up a second picture 44 years later 1947 Chuck Jagger breaking the sound barrier in a jet and I was like wow that I didn't know that's amazing in 44 years we go from two guys flying 100 feet to another American breaking the sound barrier in a jet and literally that was the end of the tour
they put that picture down and poly and I start walking out and as we're walking out that door it hit me wait a minute wait a minute why did they stop there I represent waketa Ohio all glaze County Ohio hometown of Neil Armstrong who 22 years after Chuck Jagger breaks the sound barrier steps on the moon stop and think about it in 66 years one lifetime
we went from two guys flying 100 ft to putting a Man on the Moon it is a great country a great country the greatest country in my judgment made up of great people and right now those people I think are starting to doubt and wonder about their government and about where our nation is headed they see an open border they see crime in the streets they
know what it cost to put gas in their car they know what it cost to put food on the table they see a war in Israel our strongest Ally Israel and what's happening there and the help that Israel needs needs and they see a government that's been weaponized against We the People the very government that's supposed to serve us has been turned on the taxpayers who
pay for it I think the American people are thirsty for change I think they are hungry for leadership and frankly they know that the White House can't provide it they know the Senate won't lead and they are looking for House Republicans to step up and lead and make change on these important issues we got important work to do important work to do we need to help
Israel we need to get the Appropriations process moving so the the key elements of our government are funded and funded in the right way particularly our military we need to get back to our committee work and frankly we need to continue the oversight work that I think is so darn important in short we need to get to work for the American people we need to do
what we said we were going to do we need to do what we told them we were going to do when they elected us and put us in office and frankly we can't do that if the house isn't open and if the H we can't we can't open the house until we get a speaker my favorite scripture verse is second Timothy 4:7 Paul's the old guy
giving advice to the young guy Timothy and he says fight the good fight finish the course keep the faith and I tell folks I love that verse because of the action in it because of the world Americans aren't timid folks they are people of action and the words in that verse fight finish keep I think fit the American Spirit Americans expect their government to fight for
them they expect us to finish our work and they expect us to keep Faith with the principles and values that made us the greatest nation ever made us the nation that could go from the right Brothers to Neil Armstrong that's what we have to keep in mind and that's the kind of attitude I think we got to have the quickest way to get all this working
is to get a speaker elected that's what I hope we can do today I'll take your questions so lay out your path are you just going to call roll call vote after roll call vote today and tomorrow and end of the weekend and try to wear your appoints down because it didn't seem like yester well you all you all said that we were going to lose
between the first vote and the second vote you all said we were going to lose 10 to 15 votes stayed the same we picked up a few we lost a few I think the ones we lost can come back so uh look there's been multiple rounds of votes for speaker before um we all know that I just know that we need to get a speaker as
soon as possible so we can get to work for the American people thank you Congress so just to be clear do you plan to grind this out this weekend if you don't get the votes today and then secondly President Biden as we heard last night is sending a100 billion foreign aid package here is that something you're you're you're making you're making the case for why we
need to get the house open so we can the package we can't do that can't vote on that can't pass anything in that uh until we get the house open so I got to see the package but we certainly need to help Israel um but I got to see the package but again we can't do that if the house isn't open all the more reason why
we need to get the house open as soon as possible Mr Jordan Mr Jordan what do you say to the people to the people of Israel prime minister Netanyahu that you're not able that you're not able to provide Aid to Israel because the house is so locked up again I think you're making my case I got 200 votes the speak speaker designate from from my colleagues
um the sooner we can get this accomplished the better for the American people who expect us to work for them and for our friends and allies like the great state of Israel in your conversation with members yesterday were you able to get any of the ones who didn't support you previously to pled you that they would switch their vot we we had a we had a
good conversation we'll continue to do that but uh as I as I point out the fastest way to get to work for the American people is to elect a speaker so the house can be open and we can get things done I'll take I'll take a couple more couple more 2020 election andew on that so I ask you two related questions what was your intent when
you EMA just thatal and do you believe the 2020 election I think there were all kinds of problems with the 2020 election I've been clear about that my my intention with in forwarding the email was an argument made by former Inspector General for Donald Rumsfeld accomplished lawyer who laid out an argument from The Federalist Papers I forward it on to them that that was all it
was can you walk through what is your plan this weekend if you pick up any votes on the third b or if you lose votes on the thir our our plan this weekend is to get a speaker elected to the House of Representative as soon as possible so we can help the American people last one what is your message for the people of isra everyone's time
you clearly don't have the vot to be we we stand with Israel I've been there five times amazing amazing people amazing country and we we should do everything we can to help them the quickest way to do that is to elect a speaker thank you all very much
