The Traders Journey: Tall Poppy Syndrome

Yeah, everybody, well, with the Trader Cop Crypto Show today, is the Trader's Journey. That's what the episode is all about. And today, I kind of wanted to go into, I guess covering what many of you will either be going through now or have been going through for a wee while. And some of you, well, this will be completely new if you're looking to venture into the

markets. And that is the Naysayers. They are out there. They're very powerful with their voices because they love to bring you back. You know, they're like, well, when I say back, I mean, what we call it in Australia is tall poppy syndrome. People don't like to see people moving outside of their social group. And moving on to bigger and better things. It must just be that

we're wired to feel good around the people that we're with that are the same as us for some bizarre reason. Anyway, the point that I'm trying to make is you're going to have people that are going to call you crazy, right? I know what I did. You know, when I left Noosa Heads, which is where I was from, I went and did some travel in New

Zealand for a while, did a few bits and pieces like that. But I still hadn't really worked out exactly what it was I wanted to do. Trading had always been there, except for I thought I wanted to be a stockbroker. So I did a bunch of different things there. Then I went to London. And I dived straight into trading pretty much as soon as I got

there, you know, not long after sort of settling and I was failing. Nevertheless, trading and trying. And then I had the opportunity to take over the family business. My dad's a builder in Noosa. It would, it would be pretty sweet life. You know, good business. I'd love it. I was out of the world and it was all already sort of set up for me to walk

into the hard work. So to speak, I've building the business had already been done to a certain degree where I could just walk in and, you know, a way we went. But I went and took my own path. I decided to trade and get involved in the markets mainly because I saw how much stress and how hard it was to manage a larger team. Funny now

that I do have a, you know, a growing team now. I did like the idea that I could just trade from anywhere in the world and effectively just sort of live the life that I wanted to live. Now I worked really well in my early 20s. So you have mid mid 20s is probably when it started to actually work because I started to actually, you know,

be okay at it. And then leading into, you know, about 29, 28, 28, 28, my daughter in Sydney, here. It was a pretty simple, pretty, crazy life once I got the hang of the trading game. But the whole point was that it took a lot of work to get to that stage. And you're going to have these people saying, how's trading going? Like as if they're

expecting you to fail, they want you to fail. They're expecting you to fall in your face and not be successful with it. You're going to have to deal with these people. And the hardest point of which you're going to have to deal with them is when you actually do start to have a bit of a poor run, because you're going to have one where you, we

all do it. It's just part of, part of growing up as a trader, I suppose, is that you will have these periods of time where you don't do great that you do question yourself. And you might even want to give up because I was close to giving up plenty of times. But you know, it did drive me. It was the fact that, you know, for me,

when I said I wasn't going to take over the family business after having said that I would when I was like 16 or something. Was the thought my dad said, look, why don't you do just do it well, you know, be the best at it. Now I'm not claiming to be the best at trading. But what the message was is just be really good at it.

You know, do the best you possibly can. And you know, do the right thing and be good at it. Now that message in my head, every time I thought of giving up, it was simply put in my head that was, look, you know, your dad, you got to do this a dad, you got to do this for yourself. You got to prove that you can do

this. You know, you can do this. Don't give up because if you give up now, then I'm going to do it. You know, are you a quitter or are you someone who's going to follow through it? And I kept going, I kept going, I kept going. When you have those feelings of doubt and you have the people in the back of your mind or back of

your head or in front of your face saying, how's the trading going and sort of egging you want to fail. This is where you need to have that really, really strong resolve. Because yeah, you know, if you've got the audacity to live the life that you want to live, then you're going to have some struggles. And you're going to have some people that are going to

say, all sorts of crap to you. Let me tell you from someone who's, you know, on the other side of the trading spectrum, I'm still trying to learn a lot more in the business world and doing what I'm doing at the moment. But, you know, from the trading side of things, you put the work in and the rewards are worth it. You just need to keep

yourself in that position where people don't affect you. You're so determined to achieve what you've set out to achieve that nothing will get in your way. So there are going to be people like that that are going to try and pull you back. Don't listen to them. And if you are going to listen to them, use that as fuel for the fire to drive you forward

to be the best you possibly can because there would be nothing sweeter than one day you're saying, how's your job going? And I say, what are you talking about? I've just equipped mine because I've traded full time. Now I'm going for a surf. You know, these sorts of things, not that you want to be rude to anybody, but you know, it would feel nice to be

able to go back to those people and basically say, I'll just say, I did it. I'm here. My life is awesome. It took some time. It took a lot of effort, a lot of work. And I'm still working to stay there, but I've done it. Have a good day. So guys, I'm going to make sure that everybody understood that you are going to have these people
