Biden to meet face-to-face with Xi Wednesday

For the first time in a year, U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet face-to-face in California. For a high-stakes discussion aimed at curbing tensions between the world's two superpowers, the White House confirmed the meeting on Friday. And senior administration officials said the two leaders were expected to discuss the Israel-Hamas war in Russia's invasion of Ukraine, as well as several other topics including

North Korea, Taiwan, Fentanyl, and artificial intelligence. I think this is a very important moment that might be a turning point in U.S.-China relations, which have continued to deteriorate for many years. I think having the two presidents meet is a very good idea because there's been a lot of tension in U.S.-China relations over semiconductors, over technology

transfer, and the like. And so I think the opportunity to have a conversation with President Xi and having President talk to President Biden will be very useful because I think the Chinese are in a very good mood. I'm now beginning to see that it's useful to have good relations with other countries, including Korea, Australia, and the like, and they're actually making an effort now to reach

out to other countries. Tensions have flared between the two countries since their last meeting a year ago. In February, Biden ordered the shooting down of a suspected Chinese spy balloon that translated U.S. skies. Biden is also expected to raise Chinese influence operations in foreign elections.
