15 states from Georgia to Maine are bracing for a wintry mess this weekend the cross country storm is already dumping heavy rain and snow on parts of Texas Oklahoma and Kansas ABC News chief meteorologist Ginger Z is tracking it all for us hi Ginger hey Diane it is great to be with you and yes we've got a storm for the weekend ahead of us so I

guess it's good timing less folks that are going to be on the roads but some of those roads are going to get messy fast let's go ahead and talk about who already had that that would be Amarillo Texas you can see the pictures coming in uh they had you know 1 to 3 in is just enough to make a mess but 3 to five in other

parts of the pan hando Texas if you go to Witchita Kansas throughout this morning they've been seeing the snow so those winter weather advisories are there in the plains and we're going to wrap that thing across the gulf coast today we'll get to the timing but there are winter weather alerts from the Northern parts of Georgia in the mountains there all the way into Appalachia and

then up to Maine we will time it out now and the first thing you need to know is the damaging wind and tornado threat that includes New Orleans that's for this afternoon it'll blow through the floor to Panhandle some heavy rain with that at times but it's really about when it gets that Frozen precipitation a lot of people will be starting in New York City uh

with some snow but it'll quickly trans transition over to rain then you can watch as Hartford stays snow west of Boston snow Albany snow and that's where the heaviest snow will end up away from the coast and so now we'll look at what those snow totals would end up with right it's icy down in southern Appalachia but you go into the Poconos or say the Burkshire
