we're back now with an ABC News exclusive with the former Olympian and YouTuber who plad guilty to intentionally crashing his plane now he's headed to federal prison Kana Whitworth sat down with him good morning Kana Michael good morning Trevor Jacob told me the fact that he's a convicted felon is like a horror movie to him but he's taking responsibility and he's urging others to be wary

of the power of social media he's the YouTuber who faked a failed engine and intentionally crashed his plane then posted the now viral video and this morning Trevor Jacob is speaking out when I jumped out of the plane I jumped and I'm like you just made the biggest mistake of your life that stunt Landing him a 6month federal prison sentence I take full responsibility I you

know I don't think that this type of behavior is okay the former Olympic snowboarder says he carefully planned the stunt over a California Forest back in November of 2021 I made sure that there was no fuel in the plane made absolutely sure that there was nobody in that vicinity prosecutors say he even secured a sponsorship deal I am not condoning this type of action with that

being said I did pretend that you know the engine died and kind of made The Saga of the video you were acting a bit yeah when I jumped out that plane I had no idea I committed any type of crime whatsoever it turned out that I actually committed five felonies you said that the second you jumped out of the plane and you looked at it you

realized you had just made a huge mistake yeah so why then did you decide to upload the video and share said mistake with the world I was just grateful to be alive and then I saw that the footage you know didn't get destroyed you know I may as well put this online which was another terrible mistake no precaution that this men put into effect overrides the

Ridiculousness and illegality of jumping out of a perfectly a good airplane somebody could be out hiking and get killed by an airplane falling out of the sky Jacob says he alerted the NTSB and FAA after the crash but admits he lied to them saying he didn't know where the wreckage was and then retrieved the plane himself and destroyed it I was given the legal advice to

go get the wreckage remove it get rid of it last June Jacob pled guilty to one count of Destruction and concealment with intent to obstruct a federal investigation and is set to start his prison sentence later this month now he hopes his story is a cautionary tale to others especially young kids chasing the thrill of social media let's learn from this mistake let's not get in

this disgusting feedback loop of dopamine and adrenaline and Views and and likes and I'm happy to be looked at as the the idiot you know to show kids like hey don't do this type of stuff now his pilot's license was initially revoked but he already has it back he will surrender himself to a federal facility on January 29th guys k wwor for us there thank you
